Procrastinating

I should be writing the Star Trek WIP but it doesn’t cooperate. Instead, binge-watching old Russian Holmes, giffing, etc. I want to finish my Kirk/Spock WIP because I’d hate to leave them hanging. They are too dear to me for that. Besides, I promised myself that after that I could proceed with ACD stuff again.

A comment on the margin about RL: the lockdown period having been extended until the end of April, I’ve no slightest idea how I’m going to do job hunting, so I prefer not to think of it at all XD

I sympathise on the procrastinating on fic writing! Binge watching Old!Russian Holmes is a fun task and your gifs are lovely (I remain awed by such skills as the world of gif making is a mysterious one for me).

Good luck with the Kirk/Spick WIP. I can tell how much you love them so I know you'll get there. <3

Re: giffing, I don’t do anything which requires extensive skills like photoshop editing, etc. Using simple software which makes decent stuff :)

Re: Trek WIP, oh yeah, I set myself a task of writing every day little by little. Just two damned chapters and an epilogue. I do love Kirk and Spock, but H&W pulled almost all of the blanket to their side, so here we are XD

I watched The 20th Century Begins for the first time during that marathon. Growing up I saw titbits of each episode except the last one, so everything was familiar except the last. In one of his interviews Livanov said that he had mixed feelings about the final installment, that the magic wasn’t there anymore, and perhaps they shouldn’t have done it... But it was good! Especially considering that sadly Granada never got to do His Last Bow.

I haven't actually watched 20th Century Begins yet. It is reassuring that the episode is nice despite Livanov's reservations. Do you have a favourite episode so far? Mine is Hound of the Baskervilles (shocking surprise I know lol).

I do wish Granada had filmed His Last Bow, particularly as there is a teaser photograph clearly showing that in Granada universe H&W retired together

I will never stop lamenting the loss of the Sussex footage. If I remember rightly, it was supposed to be a coda for The Second Stain or something, but eventually they cut it and it seems like it was destroyed. Damn!

Favourite Lenfilm episode, the Bloody Inscription maybe? Watson is not that blundering and the Mormon story is compressed very well. As for the Hound, it used to be hard for me to watch it after experiencing other adaptations. But recently I enjoyed it! Keeping in mind not to take it seriously helped :) It seems like they approached it with a similar goofy spirit Howard!Holmes has. Definitely not scary and gothic as the novel is, but very fun nonetheless!

Yes, I believe you are correct that the lost footage was meant to be coda for The Second Stain. Such a loss! At least fanfic grants some consolation, but maybe one day we shall be lucky with a Victorian Holmesian adaptation that has Watson & Holmes retire together.

The Bloody Inscription is an excellent episode, and I am glad that the Mormon part is compressed :O Competent!Watson is always a joy.

Ha, oh yes, not taking Hound seriously does help. I do enjoy how Watson&Holmes are in the episode as well plus Dr Mortimer. (You mentioned Howard!Holmes. I do wish that we had a Hound version for both Howard!Holmes and Whitehead!Holmes.)

Just imagining Howard! or Whitehead!Hound made me grin—it would have been full of shenanigans, no doubt.

I hope too for another Victorian Holmes adaptation which would be superb and covered the episodes which haven’t been adapted for screen before. And if it were as queer as Granada or even bolder, my god, fandom would go crazy!

Competent Watson is my jam. Also, agreed Lenfilm!Dr. Mortimer is great, A+ casting.
